Last week, the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) proudly hosted the Summer School of Diplomacy, an event that brought together scholars from across Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. Organized in collaboration with the Museum Alija Izetbegović, Homework Hub, and the Ibn Sina Institute, and hosted by the Balkans Studies Centre of IUS, the event welcomed 16 scholars from various higher education institutions, creating an environment of academic exchange and professional development.
The program featured a distinguished lineup of diplomats and scholars who delivered lectures on a range of topics related to diplomacy, international relations, and foreign affairs. Among the keynote speakers were ambassadors representing the Islamic Republic of Iran to Croatia, the Arab Republic of Egypt to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Slovenia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Turkey to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Kingdom of Sweden to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Their insights into international diplomacy and relations provided the attendees with valuable knowledge and perspectives.
In addition to the diplomatic representatives, the Summer School of Diplomacy also featured renowned experts in diplomacy, international relations, and economic diplomacy. Notable contributors included Dr. Nedžma Džananović-Mirašćija, a respected scholar of political sciences; distinguished Prof. Dr. Azra Hadžiahmetović from the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Economics, an authority in EU economics and foreign trade; Dr. Sead Turčalo, Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Sarajevo and a prominent figure in security and peace studies; Dr. Amir Duranović, a scholar with expertise in history and diplomacy; and Mr. Zlatan Burzić, Head of the Cabinet and Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Their combined expertise created a rich and diverse learning experience for the participants.
Throughout the week, the students of the Summer School of Diplomacy engaged in various activities, including study visits to the Embassy of Iran to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ibn Sina Institute, the Museum Alija Izetbegović, and the "Srebrenica" exhibition. These visits provided firsthand insight into the practice of diplomacy and the region's historical and cultural context, enhancing the academic content of the program.
The closing ceremony marked the end of a highly successful week, filled with intellectual exchanges, cultural exploration, and professional networking. The Summer School of Diplomacy was not only an academic success but also a platform for fostering international cooperation and dialogue.
