On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, the President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mr. Mustafa Şentop paid a visit to the International University of Sarajevo (IUS). The delegation was comprised of a number of MPs from the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and the Turkish Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Mr. Sadık Babür Girgin.
Mr. Şentop was welcomed by the IUS Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım and joined him in a tour around the University. Firstly, they visited Sedef Media Center and its facilities. Then, Rector Yıldırım presented the University, its cycles and study programs as well as the international body of IUS academic staff and students. He emphasized that IUS is a small university but strives towards the best quality education available to students in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. Furthermore, they discussed fundamental problems between universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey.
Mr. Şentop reminded that Turkey has good relations with all the countries in the Balkans adding that these relations are important for the stability of the region. IUS, as a multicultural learning center, strives to establish cooperation with universities in the region and contribute to the development and stability in this part of Europe. They both agreed that providing quality education to young people is of utmost importance for the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey.
The meeting was also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), Associate Professor Dr. Ervin Kovačević, the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Administration (FBA), Full Professor Dr. Emel Topcu and the Dean of the Faculty of Law (FLW), Associate Professor Dr. Aliye Fatma Mataracı.
The Rector presented a token of appreciation to Mr. Şentop in memory of his visit and kindly asked him to share his experience of IUS in the IUS Guest Book.
