Second commander (CJ2) at NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo US Army Colonel (O-5) Michael Wells visited Faculty of Economics and Business Administration on Thursday 12 November 2009 to know more about IUS and its students as well as to exchange views on the future of Bosnia-Herzegovina and to understand position of IUS faculty regarding long term prospects of the country.
During the two hour free-format brainstorming attended by Dean Kutluk Ozguven, Colonel Michael Wells and faculty members Harry I. Miller, Stephen Spielman, Muhidin Mulalić, Thomas J. Fanning, Huseyin Hayri Nuroglu and Hasan Korkut the consensus has been that a resolution towards NATO membership of Bosnia-Herzegovina, as well as a roadmap on its EC membership, would have the most favorable impact to unite the country in working towards a common goal of peace and prosperity. A NATO-member Bosnia-Herzegovina would constitute an element of stability and cooperation for the United States, Europe and NATO in general, it was emphasized.
Following the meeting Colonel Wells attended Dževada Šuško’s senior year European Politics class, where he gave a short lecture on the function of NATO in Europe throughout its 60 years history, followed by a free question-and-answer session on a variety of difficult subjects. At the end of the visit, the dean presented an IUS memorial plate to the NATO representative.
