Jasmin's academic and professional journey is a testament to the transformative power of education and dedication. As a member of the first graduating class of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) in 2009, he earned his BSc in Genetics and Bioengineering (GBE). His passion for research and academia led him to continue his education at IUS, obtaining his MSc in 2014 and successfully defending his PhD in 2020 at the Genetics and Bioengineering study program.
Jasmin's career at IUS began in 2010 as an assistant in Genetics and Bioengineering study program, where he progressed to senior assistant in 2014. In addition to his academic roles, he took on an administrative position at the Research and Development Center (RDC) in 2013, becoming deputy manager in 2015 and later serving as manager from 2020 to September 2023. His leadership and dedication significantly contributed to the growth and success of the RDC.
Now serving as the Director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at IUS, Jasmin continues to apply his expertise and passion to drive research and innovation. Over the years, he has authored or co-authored over 30 scientific papers in renowned journals, with his research focusing on plant model organisms and human genetic studies.
Reflecting on his journey, Jasmin acknowledges that IUS played a pivotal role in his personal and professional growth. As one of the first students from Bosnia and Herzegovina to study at IUS, he witnessed the university's rapid development into one of the most influential educational institutions in the country—and he has grown alongside it.
His commitment to IUS extends beyond research and teaching. As a student, he actively participated in extracurricular activities, serving as a student representative in FENS and the senate during his undergraduate years, later becoming a senate member addressing PhD student concerns. These experiences provided him with valuable insights into the institution’s governance and strengthened his leadership abilities.
Jasmin understands the challenges of staying motivated in today’s fast-paced world. His advice to students is simple yet profound: "Maintain a positive attitude and respect everyone. Stay humble, fair, and open-minded. Eventually, people will recognize and appreciate your efforts, making your time at IUS truly rewarding."
Looking ahead, Jasmin aspires to achieve the rank of full professor and remain in good health. Beyond personal ambitions, his vision is to create an environment where top MSc and PhD students can receive free education and competitive salaries, enabling them to contribute to IUS’s growth. His ultimate goal? To help IUS become one of the top universities in the Balkans.
Jasmin’s journey from student to leader at IUS is a remarkable example of commitment, perseverance, and the power of education. His story continues to inspire both students and colleagues, reinforcing the university’s mission of academic excellence and innovation.
