On Tuesday, December 13, 2016, funeral prayers in absentia were held at the International University of Sarajevo masjid for martyred Turkish policemen who lost their lives in the recent terrorist attack in Istanbul.

On Saturday, December 10, 2016 the explosion took place in Beşiktaş, Istanbul and killed 44 people including 37 policemen. More than 100 people got seriously wounded. The explosions caused great damage and the windows of many buildings nearby were broken.

After the explosion, many masjids offered funeral prayers in absentia.

"Again, we were tormented by this treacherous terrorist attack. We condemn this villainous assault targeting democracy and freedom in Turkey. Many police brothers and innocent citizens have lost their lives. We pray for all our security forces who sacrifice their lives for the safety of our people. We are deeply sorrowed for these martyrs who have taken their places as heroes in our hearts and in the glorious history of Turkish people." said IUS Rector Prof. Dr. Tahsin Erkan Türe.

We hope and pray that these kinds of attacks against humanity all over the world will come to an end soon.
