IUS Marks World Food Day with a Lecture on Toxins in Food Packaging

Within the scope of the IUS in SDG Action and on the occasion of marking the World Food Day, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS) and IUS Quality Assurance Office organized an informative lecture on October 15, 2021 about toxicological aspects of the food packaging. The lecture was delivered by an expert in the field of food engineering, Prof. Dr. Benjamin Muhamedbegović.

Packaging is an essential medium for preserving food quality, minimising food wastage and reducing preservatives used in food. It also serves the important function of containing the food, protecting against chemical and physical damage whilst providing information essential to consumers and marketers. Professor Muhamedbegović pointed out specific legislation that has been adopted with the aim of protecting consumers from contamination of packaged food caused by chemical migration.

More information about this useful topic can be found in the book „Ambalaža i pakiranje hrane“ by Benjamin Muhamedbegović, Nils V. Juul and Midhat Jašić that is available online for free or in the IUS Library.
