On Friday, February 28, 2025, the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) had the privilege of hosting a distinguished public lecture titled "Rethinking with the Impact of Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities, Risks, and the Future." Organized by the Academy of Arts and Sciences of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the lecture was delivered by renowned scholar and Rector of Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal.
The event brought together a prestigious audience, including President of the Foundation for Education Development Sarajevo (SEDEF), Mr. Hasan Topaloğlu, Mayor of Gebze Municipality, Mr. Zinnur Büyükgöz, Secretary General of the Academy of Arts and Sciences of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Professor Emeritus Asif Šabanović, IUS Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım, alongside IUS academic staff, students, and other distinguished guests.
Welcoming the attendees, IUS Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım, highlighted the growing significance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in today’s world. He emphasized how AI is not only reshaping industries but also transforming medical technologies, making groundbreaking advancements in healthcare and beyond.
In his lecture, Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal provided insights into education, research, and innovation at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), showcasing the institution’s scientific achievements and technological developments in recent years. He underscored ITU’s role in cutting-edge AI research, positioning the university as a leader in technological advancements.
Dr. Mandal then shifted focus to the future of AI, discussing the opportunities it presents in data processing, research, and innovation, as well as the challenges associated with data privacy and ethical concerns. He further emphasized the need for a solution-oriented approach in applying AI to address global challenges such as climate change, infectious diseases, natural disasters, and geo-economic instability.
