Importance of Quality Assurance in Higher Education Institutions Underlined by CEENQA and Dokuz Eylül University Delegation

A delegation comprised of the Executive Board member of the Central and Eastern European Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (CEENQA) Prof. Olgun Çiçek and the Vice-Chancellor of Dokuz Eylül University, Turkey Prof. Dr. Fatma Duygu Özel Demiralp paid a visit to the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) on Friday, August 26, 2022. The visit was organized by the IUS Quality Assurance Office. They were welcomed by the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Research Dr. Kanita Karađuzović-Hadžiabdić and Program Coordinator of the Genetics and Bioengineering study program Dr. Altijana Hromić-Jahjefendić.

The attendees mainly focused on exchanging experiences with regards to ensuring quality in the educational sector and notably at higher education institutions. Dr. Karađuzović-Hadžiabdić presented the International University of Sarajevo and underlined that the University's key principle is providing quality education to its students and added that establishing a system of internal quality assurance is a strategic decision of IUS grounded in its mission and vision. This is implemented through numerous activities undertaken by the IUS Quality Assurance Office. Moreover, the attendees also discussed the number of projects that IUS is currently involved in and expressed interest in cooperating in future endeavors. Vice-Chancellor Özel Demiralp pledged to initiate the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between IUS and Dokuz Eylül University which would foster future cooperation in the segment of joint research, project implementation, staff and staff exchange.

At the end of this productive meeting, the delegation had the opportunity to visit the IUS Research and Development Centre (RDC) in order to get acquainted with the laboratories, equipment and other infrastructure available to IUS students and staff to enhance their learning, research and project work.
