From April 7–11, 2025, the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) proudly hosted the second phase of the Erasmus+ short exchange program with ISCPA – Institut Supérieur des Médias from Lyon, France. This phase followed the successful first part of the exchange, during which IUS students visited Lyon in March. The week in Sarajevo was marked by dynamic cross-cultural collaboration, academic engagement, and meaningful dialogue around the theme: Intercultural Communication in the Digital Age.
The program began on Monday with student presentations focused on how emojis and memes are understood across cultures, sparking insightful discussions on the evolving language of digital communication. This initial exchange set the tone for the rest of the week, as participants explored the impact of digital media on cultural perceptions and expression.
Tuesday was reserved for a deeply moving visit to the War Childhood Museum, offering both the local and French students a powerful look into the lived experiences of children affected by war. The following day, the group was welcomed at Al Jazeera Balkans by Head of Communications Melina Kamerić, who shared professional insights into media, narrative, and the importance of ethical storytelling in today’s globalized world.
On Thursday, participants ventured to Herzegovina, visiting Konjic, Mostar, and Blagaj. This excursion allowed students to experience the natural and architectural beauty of the region while learning about its cultural and historical significance.
The exchange concluded on Friday with a joint workshop and final presentations by twelve students - six from IUS and six from ISCPA. Over the course of the week, students collaborated on three thematic areas: fashion, music, and audiovisual documentary film, using these mediums to reflect on intercultural dialogue, shared values, and diverse perspectives.
This Erasmus+ exchange stands as a testament to the power of education in fostering understanding, empathy, and cooperation across borders. The experience not only enriched the students academically and culturally but also deepened their awareness of the role media and communication play in shaping our global society.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all students, faculty, and staff who made this exchange possible, and look forward to future collaborations that continue to bridge cultures and inspire learning.
