The 22nd of April is the Planet Earth's day. Professors from the Department of Biological sciences and Bioengineering of IUS, organised a plantation action to celebrate this very important day. Eight students of the second year planted, together with their professors, 23 seedlings and 4 different kind of trees.
The plantation action was organised on Barice, a piknik area 10km from the center of Sarajevo, up from Baščaršija. Among the seedlings and trees, we planted: Beech (Fagus sylvatica), Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), Wild Cherry (Prunus avium), and Alder (Alnus glutinosa). In this way we increased the existing biodiversity at Barice and spend a beautiful day together. The weather conditions were not the best one, but the new planted trees surely enjoyed the few rain drops falling at times.
We should always remind us that the only way to have a quality future is in the concept of sustainable development. Natural resources, from which we all depend, are limited. What we take from Mother Narture, we should try to replace by giving Her back what we can and be thankful! All biological processes are cycles, so let us don't forget that we are all inhabiting a beautiful Blue Green Planet that we must respect!
