As a part of the process of architectural education at IUS Architecture program, students and staff members went to the world famous Biennale di Venzia as one of events on the architectural calendar that shouldn't be avoided. The trip was organized between 11th and 14th October 2012.
This year's appointed Director, at the Biennale is world famous architect Sir David Chipperfiled recipient of various awards such as RIBA Sterling Prize, Royal Gold Medal, Andrea Palladio Prize, Tessenow Gold Medal to name the few and his topic for this year's Biennale is "Common Ground" where participants will be "encouraged through a declaration of affinities to make connections with other authors and other works".
The Architectural Biennale is held between 29th August 2012 till 25th November 2012 at two already established venues- Arsenale and Giardini as well as other venues thought the city of Venice.
During the first day of study trip participants visited a former shipyard and armory complex, Arsenale, where 49 different exhibitions were collected. The following day participants had an opportunity to spend whole day at Giardini and enjoy the landscape architecture in the park including 31 Pavilion in which countries separately exhibited their projects on the topic of 'Common Ground' as well as Main building where additional 27 world known architects also had a chance to show their ideas.
In addition to this contemporary architecture exhibit the group had a chance to visit historical core of Venice and enjoy the sightseeing and the canals.
