A project developed by two students of the IUS Architecture (ARCH) study program, Lamija Basarić and Amna Neimarlija, has been selected for publication in the official dossier of the international competition “Reuse the Watchtower”, organized by Reuse Italy.
The publication brings together a selection of the competition’s most notable proposals and serves to present the outcomes of the initiative to the wider architectural community, offering visibility to innovative ideas focused on heritage reuse and contemporary design approaches.
Organized during the summer of 2025, the competition centered on the Minerva Tower, a 14th-century coastal watchtower located at Punta della Campanella in Italy. Participants were invited to reinterpret the abandoned historic structure and its surrounding area by proposing a contemporary artist residency, combining architectural sensitivity with new functional and cultural value.
Reuse Italy, the organizer of the competition, is an Italian benefit corporation dedicated to promoting the reuse of abandoned historical heritage through a wide range of cultural initiatives, including international workshops, project calls, exhibitions, and publications.
The selection of the project by Lamija Basarić and Amna Neimarlija for inclusion in the official dossier represents a valuable international recognition of their work and highlights the creativity and potential of IUS Architecture students in addressing contemporary architectural challenges through thoughtful and socially relevant design.
