International University of Sarajevo (IUS) is proud to announce that the Visual Arts and Visual Communications Design (VACD) student Amer Tanović has won the New Generation Media Art Award (NGMAA) 2025 for his outstanding work “Ćilim 2.5”.
With this achievement, Amer has earned a prestigious artistic residency at ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, a UNESCO City of Media Arts, providing him with a remarkable opportunity to continue developing his artistic research on an international level.
The jury praised “Ćilim 2.5” for its “minimalist, impactful appearance and deep research – merging traditional crafts with the logic of digital production, algorithms, and code.” The work was recognized for exploring the intersection between heritage and technology, weaving together personal stories, traditional weaving techniques, and digital processes.
The award announcement took place during the opening of the exhibition “PLACE OF CONFIDENCE” at the Goethe-Institut Sarajevo, organized in partnership with ZKM Karlsruhe and Ars Aevi. Alongside Amer, the exhibition also features works by Una Filipović, Ilda Halilčević, Ivana Ružić, and Emina Veladžić, who were among the finalists selected from a pool of fourteen young Bosnian artists.
The NGMAA initiative aims to support emerging media artists in Bosnia and Herzegovina by providing them with international exposure and professional development opportunities. As part of the competition, participants attended a summer workshop led by artists Zulfikar Filandra and Maja Zećo, where they developed and refined their project concepts.
The exhibition “PLACE OF CONFIDENCE” remains open to visitors at the Goethe-Institut Sarajevo until October 31, 2025.
