UNDP Supports Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals at IUS

On Thursday, November 9, 2023, representatives of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) and activists in the field of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) visited the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Assistant Professor Dr. Azra Bičo, Chair of the SDG Executive Committee (SDG Committee) and a professor at the Faculty of Business and Administration (FBA) at IUS, along with Ms. Lamija Hadžimurtezić, an employee of the Quality Assurance Office and a member of the SDG Committee, met at the UNDP headquarters in Sarajevo with Mr. Emir Adžović, a UNDP expert with extensive international experience in the field of SDGs.

Business experiences were exchanged between the representatives of the two institutions in a positive atmosphere and enthusiasm. Efficient modalities for future collaboration between IUS and UNDP in implementing Sustainable Development Goals were also agreed upon.

IUS representatives discussed the University's multi-year efforts to enhance sustainability awareness among young people - students and highlighted the implemented activities that significantly contributed to placing IUS among the leading universities in the region in the field of SDGs. They also emphasized that the Management of the University is ready to elevate the implementation of UN goals to an even higher level, conducting strategic activities to intensify cooperation with the local community and the business sector. In this regard, further development measures are planned in the upcoming period, including the involvement of relevant government and private sectors. Expert Adžović expressed UNDP's readiness to support IUS activities in this regard and coordinate inter-institutional cooperation. Possibilities for the exchange of experts, educational workshops, and collaborative research were also discussed.

"Without implementation at the local level and connecting the University with various stakeholders in concrete actions, successful realization of the SDGs is not possible," concluded the representatives from IUS.
