The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) hosted the fifth local transnational seminar of the ADRION NATURED project on June 30, 2025. This event was organized within the framework of Work Package 1: Understanding Climate-City Interactions, which examines how climate change impacts urban environments and how communities can build resilience through sustainable and inclusive development.
The seminar brought together environmental experts, municipal representatives, academics, and students to engage in a forward-thinking discussion under the theme: “Balanced Sustainable Development of Urban Areas and SECAP as a Strategic Document in Mitigating the Effects of Climate Change in Urban Settings.”
The aim was to explore strategic approaches to sustainable urban development and the pivotal role of SECAP (Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan) in addressing climate-related challenges in cities.
Adding a regional development perspective, Mr. Domagoj Vidaković, an international consultant with extensive experience in EU, UNDP, and USAID projects, presented concrete examples of how SECAPs are applied in urban contexts as essential tools for climate adaptation and mitigation.
In the closing session, Dr. Ismar Alagić, IUS professor and project manager for the NATURED project at IUS, highlighted the importance of project development and innovation in achieving balanced and sustainable growth in urban areas. His insights emphasized the need for practical solutions that link scientific research with real-world applications in city planning and resilience building.
