In order to offer a better knowledge about the banking system operations, International University of Sarajevo (IUS) decided to host a well-known speaker in the business world of banking, Executive Vice President of the Kuveyt Türk Participation Bank, Ahmet Süleyman Karakaya from Turkey. The Seminar was organized at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) on Friday, December 4, 2015. Prior to the beginning of the Seminar, IUS Rector, Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu welcomed distinguished guests with his associates in the Rectorate. On behalf of the guests, Executive Vice President of the Kuveyt Türk Participation Bank, Ahmet Süleyman Karakaya attended the meeting accompanied with Deputy Executive Director of Corporate Marketing, Ali Bağatır and their associate Sevde Nur Toprak. During the meeting, Rector Oğurlu briefly gave information about the IUS, its previous work which is successfully implemented at the Faculty of Business and Administration (FBA) especially in the field of education and finance for students.
Vice President Karakaya also presented the work of the bank, saying that he looked forward to coming to Bosnia and Herzegovina especially to one successful educational institution where young people have the opportunity to learn about the finances and banking such as IUS. Vice Rectors, Assist. Prof. Dr. Muhamed Ali and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Gürsel along with Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS), Prof. Dr. Fuat Gürcan and Dean of the Faculty of Business and Administration (FBA), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Korkut attended the meeting as well. After the meeting, Vice President Karakaya held a Seminar in the main amphitheater of the IUS titled ’’Comparison between Islamic and Conventional Banking System’’.
This event brought together a number of distinguished guests from the financial and banking sector in B&H, as well as numerous students, academics and professors who wanted to gain more knowledge about the Islamic banking in general. ''This is the 7th Seminar so far that I have taught all over Europe and I'm really glad to be here today. My wish is to introduce you all to Islamic banking and its development in the world. Islamic Banking is a specific type of banking that tries to avoid a ban on paying and receiving interest as prescribed by Islam. Islamic banks operate on the basis of profit sharing or using other permitted forms; open transaction and investment deposits'' - said Karakaya during his presentation. At the end of the Seminar, Q&A session followed where guests had the opportunity to participate in the discussion on the above mentioned topic.
