At the end of July 2022, the German certification company "TUV Thüringen" awarded the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) with a management system certificate according to ISO 9001:2015. The certificate refers to the administrative management of the General Secretariat (GS) of the University, whose field of application is provision of administrative and technical services.
What is the significance of this certificate? The certificate affirms the student-focused approach of IUS ensuring hastier and more efficient service provision to all its beneficiaries regarding their learning, teaching, scientific research and artistic activities. In addition, it implies a more transparent approach to decision-making and management activities and guarantees full implementation of the Mission and Vision of the University and internationally recognized standards.
TUV Thüringen, through TUV Adria, as its branch and regional representative, conducted an external audit at IUS on July 8, 2022. The appointed commission checked the required documentation, analyzed work processes, and verified the management system according to the applicable requirements of the ISO standard. Their results evaluated the GS quality management system (QMS) as fully efficient and fully in accordance with the required standards. The aforementioned external audit was preceded by a long and extensive preparation including an internal audit of the entire administrative operations of the University that was carried out by the Quality Assurance Office (QA Office) with the support of the IUS General Secretariat.
It is important to point out that the IUS management, since the very foundation of the University, has invested enormous efforts and provided resources in order to maintain the quality of education in all its university activities. Commitment to quality assurance is continuously traced in its strategic goals. Thus, in the latest IUS Strategy for the period 2022-2026, the plan is to continue improving the quality management system (QMS) through regular SWOT analyses and the "PDCA" cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act) in all university policies, processes and operations.
For all efforts and commitment to quality, during the last two decades of its existence, IUS received many awards and recognitions, both for academic and scientific research activities, as well as administrative ones. Some of these recognitions are: prestigious international accreditation in Austria, extremely good ranking on world university rankings (the first private university in Bosnia and Herzegovina), the university leader in the region in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as the efficient establishment of academic cooperation at the international level (more than 200 signed cooperation agreements with local and global institutions).
