IUS Students Advocate for Democracy at Wartburg Festival in Germany

IUS Students at Wartburg Festival in Germany

IUS students Fatma Nur Ekmekçi, Tara-Michelle Gliha, Ema Horňàčkovà, Aslıhan Şen, Lamija Ahmetagić, and Lamija Veladžić participated in the international student forum held under the theme “What Must Democracy Be Able to Endure?”. The event, part of the Wartburg Festival of Democracy, took place in Eisenach, Germany, from October 14 to 18, 2024.

The forum brought together students from diverse countries, including Switzerland, Finland, Germany, Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine, Gambia, Brazil, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, to discuss the state of democracies in their respective nations. The participants collaborated on drafting a joint declaration that emphasized the importance of addressing increasing polarization, which poses a threat to the legitimacy of democratic governance.

In addition to engaging in meaningful discussions, IUS students had the opportunity to share their insights in an interview with Wartburg Radio and were featured in local media coverage, further amplifying their contributions to the event.
