IUS on European Researchers’ Night

Researchers’ night is European event encouraged by European Commission on 2005 with aim to get closer citizens and researchers, on last Friday in September, as an alternative to usual Friday night events. The focus is on presenting research in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, highlighting the positive impact of research on the daily lives of citizens and promoting the careers of researchers, particularly among young people under the slogan: "Researchers are among us!"

BiH has been participating on Researchers’ night since 2012 when first event was held at Banja Luka. This year event was held at Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Bijeljina and Mostar. Our goal is to have activities under the slogan “Start a chain reaction” campaign with a focus on cooperation in science to begin a chain reaction of positive change in society, demonstrating the impact model innovation to entrepreneurship. The implementation of activities is based on international cooperation in the presentation of scientific achievements in the region, Europe and beyond.

 On 29th September, IUS also participated on manifestation, presenting its activities and interesting facts that provides. IUS was presented by following professors and assistants: Hamza Preljević, Nerkez Opačin, Hrustan Šišić, who presented topic “International Relations in Modern World. Topic “Management of personal finances“was presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Ognjen Riđić, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senad Bušatlić, Assist. Prof. Dr. Emil Knezović, and student demonstrators Abdul Wahab Aidoo and Arnela Đilović. Also Assist. Prof. Dr. Azra Branković, Assist. Prof. Dr. Jasminka Hasić Telalović and Nirmela Čakor attended on fair stand.

This event was implemented in several segments:

• Scientific information park with demonstration of experiments, who directly involves visitors to communicate with researchers;

• Contests of high school teams for the best scientific project;

• Scientific cafe, where visitors can talk with scientists called "Ring Me";

• Various competitions, games and quizzes, designed specifically for younger audiences;

• "Science tells" - lectures and presentations of scientific research papers and current topics;

• EU corner: presentation of the activities of the EU research policy, as well as view the projects financed from EU funds and implemented in BiH;

• Live lectures from researchers from 10 participating states of the European Researchers' Night;

• Thematic activities of universities, research centers, museums and innovative entrepreneurs;

• Fair of Science and Innovation;

• Screening of films with scientific research topic and Science Party.

All facilities were free for visitors.

Every year around 11,000 people visit the Researchers' Night activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
