IUS Alumni Success Story - Hamid Mehinović: A Journey from IUS to Sustainable Development Leadership

Hamid Mehinović graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Management and Leadership Studies from the International University of Sarajevo (IUS). Reflecting on his academic journey, Hamid credits IUS for equipping him with the leadership, strategic thinking, and management skills essential for his professional success. The diverse and intellectually stimulating environment at IUS fostered his cultural competency and broadened his global perspective, preparing him to excel in a multidisciplinary and international setting.

Today, Hamid is the Business Development Officer at the Center for Economic, Technological, and Environmental Development (CETEOR). CETEOR, established in 1992, focuses on supporting the sustainable development of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the fields of environment, energy, and technology. The organization acts as a vital link between businesses, academia, government organizations, and international entities, striving to create long-term sustainability through innovative solutions.

After graduating, Hamid embarked on a demanding yet fulfilling career path. His initial role in a local consulting firm allowed him to apply the theories and concepts he learned at IUS to real-world business challenges. The hands-on projects and case studies from his university days proved invaluable in understanding operational management and team dynamics. His journey eventually led him to CETEOR, where he found a perfect alignment between his personal values and professional goals.

At CETEOR, Hamid's primary objective is to drive the company's growth by securing new projects and clients. Over the past 15 years, he has successfully implemented projects related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable development across various countries, including the Western Balkans, Mongolia, India, Jordan, Armenia, Turkey, Ukraine, Moldova, and South Africa. These projects, in collaboration with prestigious organizations like the UNDP, World Bank Group, GIZ, USAID, and the EU, underscore Hamid's commitment to sustainable development on a global scale.

Hamid emphasizes the importance of networking and continuous learning. His advice to current IUS students is to build a diverse knowledge base, develop strong leadership and communication skills, and maintain a proactive approach to professional development. He encourages students to seek mentors, engage in extracurricular activities, and pursue opportunities that align with their values and interests.

Hamid's dedication to giving back to his alma mater is evident in his regular guest lectures at IUS, where he shares his professional insights on environmental management, circular economy, and sustainable development. He also collaborates with IUS faculty and students on research projects, aiming to drive innovation and contribute to academic knowledge.
