On Friday, November 11, 2016, Accreditation Award Ceremony was held at International University of Sarajevo. Before the ceremony started, Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Gürsel and PR Office Manager Meldina Ugarak welcomed the media representatives in a dining hall. After this occasion, IUS Rector Prof. Dr. Tahsin Erkan Türe hosted the media in Senate Room and informed them about latest IUS activities and future projects.
The ceremony started with the Lute Performer by Hana Alivodić, IUS student of Psychology. The speakers who delivered their speeches were: Prof. Dr. Hasan Zuhuri Sarıkaya, President of IUS Board of Trustees, IUS Rector Prof. Dr. Tahsin Erkan Türe, Dr. Achim Hopbach, and Managing Director of the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria (AQ Austria).
''University is shaped within accreditation. IUS has decided to internationalize in accordance with the decision that has taken 12 years ago. Within the framework of its vision of internationalization, IUS has achieved its present success by passing through many institutions. In this direction, we aimed to obtain many accreditations for our faculties and departments'', said IUS Rector Prof. Dr. Tahsin Erkan Türe.
Prof. Dr. Hasan Zuhuri Sarıkaya, President of IUS Board of Trustees, welcomed the guests and emphasized: “Total amount of investment in IUS exceeds 40 million KM, total number of IUS employees is around 300, total operation and maintenance cost for the last 12 years exceeds 57 million KM, total amount of scholarship offered annually amounts approximately to about 6.5 million KM, in the academic year of 2016-2017 IUS students body consists of 1828 students, out of which 1058 are foreign students and 770 BH are nationals.” He also stated that there is still much to be done, but he believes that IUS family has the potential to achieve the set targets of its Strategic Plan.
“I would like to congratulate the International University of Sarajevo for this positive outcome for the accreditation procedure which demonstrates publicly not only the clear commitment to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), but also the study programs accredited are of High Quality and in line with principles of the EHEA: Bosnia and Herzegovina has joined the Bologna Process in 2003, without AQ which is one of the most important pillars of the Bologna Process. AQ is a tool to help to achieve one of the main goals of the BP; it helps to provide students with high quality preferences that can be recognized through the whole EHEA and that quality, and to help graduates for the success future and career”, said Dr. Achim Hopbach.
After the announcement of accredited study programs, respective program coordinators Assoc. Prof. Dr. Izudin Džafić, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ragab Abdel Gawwad, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Assist. Prof. Dr. Peter Plenta, Faculty of Business and Administration, Assist. Prof. Dr. Anela Hasanagić, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences were awarded certificates.
IUS Rector Prof. Dr. Tahsin Erkan Türe gave special award ‘‘Certificate of Appreciation in Recognition of Outstanding Dedication and Commitment ’’ to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mirsad Karić, Vice Rector for General Affairs, MA Edina Hadžiahmetović, Quality Assurance Manager, and thanked them for their contribution to our university.
IUS will continue with successes in the educational system in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our main aim is to become the leader in higher education in the country.
