From September 6 to September 9, 2012, the first Sarajevo Urbanism World Forum was held in Sarajevo.
During those 4 days, the city of Sarajevo hosted many professionals working in the field of urbanism, town and country planning, as well as personalities from the fields of culture, economics and politics from B&H, France and other counties.
IUS professors and students from the Architecture Program were honored in participating in this prestigious event.
The central topic of Forum was the project of 'Greater Paris' (Grand Paris), which considers reorganization and increase of quality of urban life in the region of Paris, known as economically strongest European area.

Through the Forum, four conferences have been given in the B&H Parliament, where participants had the opportunity of attending lectures on the future of the urban civilization:
- Ambitions of 'Greater Paris' Project - Culture and Heritage – the Economic Challenges - The Challenges of Mobility - Post-Kyoto Metropolis.
One of the most important invitees and speakers on the Forum was the French minister of the town Mr. François Lamy, who stressed that these kind of events serve the purpose of having architects and planners working together on developing new visions of urban areas where politicians and high authorities are required to take part during the process of development and decision making.
The great aim of the Sarajevo Urbanism World Forum is to become a biennial event and a global center of urbanism and architecture, where world's experts will discuss statistical parameters and actual topics.
Every two years, Sarajevo Urbanism World Forum will host a gathering together with another international city where the elected town will present its project and vision for its future in the 21st century.
The Mayor of the Sarajevo city, Prof. Dr. Alija Behmen, officially closed the event on Saturday evening September 8, 2012. He said that the event had a huge success especially in the number of participants interested in those topics.
