High Representative Valentine Inzko held lecture at IUS

High Representative Valentin Inzko held lecture "Time Travel?! (In)Terminable Intervention in BiH" at International University of Sarajevo, on Thursday, April 11, 2019. Dr Inzko was welcomed at university by the rector of International University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yildirim, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Admir Mulaosmanović and the president of IUS Student Parliament Ismail Čidić.

The lecture was held in the full amphitheatre of IUS. During his lecture Dr. Inzko pointed out few things:

“There are currently two realities in BiH. On the one hand, there seems to be consensus across the political spectrum when it comes to EU membership, reflected in the recent handing over of follow-up answers to the Questionnaire. But on the other hand, we see destabilizing rhetoric from all sides and gridlock in the formation and functioning of authorities. Moreover, BiH authorities over the last ten years have been unable to progress on basic issues like the implementation of the Sejdic-Finci case and related rulings by the European Court for Human Rights”.

Addressing things to be done in the future, Dr. Inzko mentioned the following:

“There is still work to be done. Mostar needs to work. Corruption has to stop. The state institutions need to be properly financed. Financing of the Public Broadcasting System needs to be secured, this is a prerequisite of independent media. The Electoral system needs to be reformed, so that elections can be transparent, free and fair.

And most significantly, the judiciary must be allowed to work independently of political pressures and be able to process corruption cases at all levels”.

Sending the final message to students, Dr. Inzko said that if there is a bright future for this country, it will become a reality only if the youth also believes in it. And he said that he believes that Bosnia has the bright future because common people live and work together, business people work together, there is still a chance for politicians to learn how to live and work together.

After the lecture, students and professors had the chance to ask questions.

The lecture is organized by the IUS Balkan Studies Centre, as one of the public figures speeches where students and professors of IUS have the chance to get opinions from some other perspectives.
