International University of Sarajevo and Anadolu University Discussed New Forms of Cooperation

On June 19, 2019, the delegation of Anadolu University (AU) led by Rector Prof. Dr. Şafak Ertan Çomaklı, paid a visit to International University of Sarajevo (IUS). The representatives of Anadolu University (Eskişehir, Turkey), the university with the highest number of students in Turkey prominent for its open education programs, had a meeting with the our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım, where the two rectors discussed the ways in which the AU and IUS can contribute to the development of higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The meeting was also attended by Prof. Dr. Şafak Ertan Çomaklı, the AU vice-rector, Mr. Mahmut Güven, the president of the AU for the Balkans, Mr. Islam Zukan, deputy director of AU Balkans branch, and Prof. Dr. Şehabeddin Taha İmeci, the IUS vice-rector.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, AU and IUS already have successful cooperation as part of which Anadolu University has its administrative center at the IUS campus, where it offers a large number of open education study programs to local, but also foreign students. The aim of the meeting between the two rectors was to discuss the ways to strengthen the years-long cooperation but also to expand it to the new forms. The dialogue included the topic of starting the double degree study programs between the two universities. The possibilities to expand cooperation are to be identified for bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.

The rectors of both universities agreed that the details of the cooperation are to be determined and announced the possibility of signing the Memorandum of Cooperation in the future.
