Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lejla Panjeta, a professor of film studies, visual communication and ideology at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, lectured about “Series and Diziler: Genre Features and Reception in Bosnia” at the International University of Sarajevo on Tuesday, January 13, 2015. Dr. Panjeta spoke about the phenomena of series, the soap operas and telenovelas, and analyzed the ontogenesis of genres, the history of melodramatic genre, and ''differencia specifica'' in soap operas, the Turkish series called Diziler and soap operas in general.
She corroborated the cultural and sociological influences of the TV series with the negative and positive aspects, socially acceptable examples, bearing in mind the human need for fiction and imagination as the exact opposite of the truth and reality. Dr. Panjeta takes film theorist Rick Altman, as reference in saying "the theory of mixed genres is in accordance with the needs of the audience as well as the profitability of fiction as a capitalist-postmodern product. It allows us to create new - old genres based on classic works of literature and drama, and thereby positively contribute to the reflection of a particular culture where the action of the series is happening ".
Dr. Lejla Panjeta is author of books "The industry is an illusion: Film & Propaganda", "Telenovela - Love factory: Introduction to production and genre", "The need for meaning: Myth, manipulation and movie" and "New (and old) lies". Her interests are research in the field of propaganda, aesthetics, film and media studies.
