An event commemorating the life and work of the renowned Turkish poet, writer and intellectual Mr. Sezai Karakoç was held on January 5, 2022 at the International University of Sarajevo. The event, which was organized by the Faculty of Education at IUS, hosted Mr. Şaban Abak, Turkish author and poet who talked about Mr. Karakoç 's works emphasising his ideas, opinions and stances that prevailed. “Mr. Sezai Karakoç was considered Yunus Emre and Mevlana of the modern age. He was one of the most important poets in modern Turkish literature. There is more written about him then he himself wrote,“ noted Abak. He called upon the youth to read the great works of this renowned author.
Furthermore, another distinguished guest who talked about Mr. Karakoç's was Mr. Hüseyin Kansu, a former member of the Turkish Parliament and a great friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its people, who focused on the author’s origins, life and the important role that he played in the Turkish culture and heritage. “Sezai Karakoç is not only significant for the Turkish people but for the whole Islamic world as he believed that all the Muslims in the world are one people. Considering that the first ex-territorial Yunus Emre Institute was opened here in Sarajevo, it is important to start talking about Mr. Karakoç right here,” Huseyin Kansu underlined.
The commemoration was concluded with students from IUS and the University of Zenica who recited selected verses from Mr. Karakoç's works.
