Erasmus+ Meeting on Capacity Building in Vocational Education and Training

The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) hosted a two-day meeting of projects funded under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Vocational Education and Training (CB-VET) action on October 7–8, 2026. Held at the invitation of the National Erasmus+ Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the meeting focused on project implementation, the exchange of experience and opportunities for cooperation in strengthening vocational education and training.

The event brought together 18 participants representing 17 organizations and 18 CB-VET projects. Participating institutions included universities, secondary vocational schools, adult education centers, companies, a digital innovation hub, civil society organizations and cultural institutes from across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Strengthening Vocational Education through Cooperation

The meeting opened with a welcome from Dr. Nađa Beglerović, Manager of the IUS Office of Sponsored Projects, followed by addresses from IUS Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Kuşakcı and Mr. Suad Muhibić, Head of the National Erasmus+ Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In his address, Rector Kuşakcı emphasized the contribution of CB-VET projects to modernizing curricula, developing educators’ skills, strengthening cooperation with employers and expanding learning opportunities for young people and adults. He highlighted the role of international partnerships in ensuring that vocational education responds to changing labor market needs.

The Rector also acknowledged the support provided by the National Erasmus+ Office and the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), represented at the meeting by Project Officer Ms. Martina Filinich. He noted that participation in CB-VET projects enables IUS to apply its expertise in education and technology while developing partnerships with European and regional institutions.

Project Presentations and Exchange of Experience

Ms. Filinich presented an overview of Capacity Building in VET in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including key statistics and insights into the implementation of the action.

CB-VET supports international cooperation between vocational education and training organizations in EU Member States, countries associated with Erasmus+ and countries not associated with the program. Its objectives include strengthening VET institutions and systems, supporting socio-economic development and improving the connection between vocational training and labor market opportunities.

Participants presented their projects, providing an overview of ongoing activities and the organizations involved. These presentations enabled project teams to identify shared priorities and potential areas of cooperation.

Peer exchange sessions provided an opportunity to discuss implementation challenges, share practical experience and raise questions with the EACEA Project Officer. A session for partners based outside Sarajevo took place on October 7, followed by a session for Sarajevo-based partners on October 8.

IUS Presents the CyberFort Project

Representing IUS, Mrs. Hilal Karić, Director of the Life-Long Learning Center (IUS Life) and the English Language School (ELS), presented the CyberFort project. In her capacity as project coordinator, she outlined the University’s activities, progress achieved and lessons learned during implementation.

The presentation contributed to the exchange of experience among participating organizations and highlighted IUS’s involvement in initiatives supporting vocational education and training.

Supporting Continued Collaboration

The meeting provided a platform for dialogue between project teams, the National Erasmus+ Office and EACEA, with a focus on effective implementation and cooperation across projects.

By hosting the event, IUS reaffirmed its commitment to international academic cooperation and the development of vocational education and training in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The University extends its appreciation to the National Erasmus+ Office, EACEA and all participating organizations for their contributions.
