Exploring Australia's Multiculturalism: Insights from the Australian Embassy

Exploring Australia's Multiculturalism

On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) had the honor of hosting two distinguished representatives from the Australian Embassy in Vienna: Ms. Brittany Clarke, First Secretary and Bilateral Relations and Public Diplomacy Officer, and Ms. Nada Muster, Policy Officer. Their visit was in response to an invitation extended by Assistant Professor Dr. Vesna Suljić, ELIT Program Coordinator, to deliver a lecture on Australia's multiculturalism and slang.

During the session, Ms. Brittany Clarke delivered a captivating and informative lecture on Australia's rich cultural heritage, focusing on the history and evolution of multiculturalism in the country. She also highlighted the traditions of the First Nations – Australian Indigenous societies and discussed contemporary challenges and efforts towards reconciliation and fostering good relationships within Australia's multicultural and global communities.

The lecture concluded with some enjoyable activities, including sharing insights into Australian slang and sampling popular Australian delicacies such as Tim Tams, Anzac biscuits, and Vegemite spread on bread. Students actively engaged in the session, posing questions which Ms. Clarke graciously answered.

We look forward to fostering continued cooperation with the Australian Embassy in the upcoming academic year(s).
