The IUS Architecture (ARCH) study program, in collaboration with partners from Akademia Nauk Stosowanych (ANS) in Raciborz, Poland, organized the workshop “Senses & Structures: Crafting Emotional Pavilion”, held from March 2 to 6, 2026, at the International University of Sarajevo.
Bringing together students from different cultural backgrounds, the workshop served as a valuable platform for creative exchange, teamwork, and intercultural collaboration. Its main goal was to unite young architecture students around a shared design challenge and encourage them to develop innovative ideas within a limited timeframe.
Upon their arrival, the guests from Poland had the opportunity to explore the rich history and culture of Sarajevo, adding an important cultural dimension to the overall experience.
The workshop gathered nine architecture students from IUS and eight architecture students from ANS. The design process was mentored by Associate Prof. Dr. Alma Hudović-Kljuno and Assistant Prof. Dr. Leila Krivošić-Dizdarević from IUS, together with Dr. Joanna Sokołowska-Moskwiak and Dr. Wiesław Olejko from ANS.
Students were divided into mixed groups and tasked with designing a pavilion in the natural setting of Veliki Park in Ilidža. Each group was assigned a specific emotion, which their architectural concept was expected to interpret, evoke, or express through space and structure.
Over the course of three intensive working days, the students developed five creative pavilion concepts, which were presented in the form of posters on the final day of the workshop.
Following the presentations, the professors selected the best project. The winning concept, Grief Pavilion, was recognized for its thoughtful interpretation of emotion through architectural design. Its authors were awarded symbolic gifts inspired by Sarajevo and Bosnian culture.
