On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) paid an official visit to Tuzla, where meetings were held with representatives of the University of Tuzla and Behram-beg’s Madrasa, reaffirming IUS’s commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships and expanding opportunities for academic cooperation.
During the visit to the University of Tuzla, the IUS delegation - led by Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Kuşakcı and joined by Assoc. Prof. Muhammed Yasir Göz, Vice-Rector for General Affairs, and Mr. Jahja Imamović, Deputy Secretary General for Legal and Administrative Affairs - was welcomed by Rector Prof. Dr. Amir Karić, along with vice-rectors and associates. The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere and focused on areas of mutual interest, particularly opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the two universities.
During the meeting, the Rector of IUS highlighted three key areas of potential cooperation. The first relates to an international partnership project led by IUS, which supports young PhD researchers in specific research disciplines and is financed by three international partners. Within this framework, the University of Tuzla could delegate future researchers to take part in the project. The second proposed area of cooperation concerns the exchange of academic staff, particularly in support of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at IUS. The third area involves the joint preparation and submission of projects, especially with regard to applications for European Union funds.
In addition, the Rector of IUS introduced a fourth initiative related to international cooperation with a prestigious Turkish company in the field of innovation and the establishment of a start-up center. This initiative represents an additional opportunity for the two universities to jointly identify and develop areas of common interest, particularly in innovation and entrepreneurship.
During the visit, both sides expressed full support for the signing of a cooperation protocol as a first step, followed by concrete activities aimed at its implementation. The meeting thus opened the door to a more structured and forward-looking partnership between the two institutions.
As part of the visit to Tuzla, the IUS delegation also visited Behram-beg’s Madrasa, where they were warmly welcomed by its Director, Dr. Admir Muratović. During the meeting, the Director presented the prestige, historical importance, and achievements of this respected educational institution.
The visit also confirmed mutual support for the continuation of cooperation between IUS and Behram-beg’s Madrasa, especially in the area of promoting IUS study programs among the Madrasa’s students, as well as in further strengthening the collaboration already established between the two institutions.
Through meetings such as these, IUS continues to strengthen its connections with educational institutions across Bosnia and Herzegovina, while opening new possibilities for academic collaboration, student outreach, and the development of shared initiatives in higher education, research, and innovation.
