Associate Prof. Dr. Altijana Hromić-Jahjefendić from the Genetics and Bioengineering program at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) recently participated in an advanced Training School hosted by the Physiological Oxygen Laboratory at the King’s British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence, King’s College London, U.K. The event took place from March 4th to March 8th, 2024. The Training School aimed to provide comprehensive research seminars and hands-on training to attendees, focusing on the latest advancements in understanding the KEAP1/NRF2 defense pathway in cellular redox signaling, particularly in studies conducted under physiological oxygen levels.
Supported by the EU COST Action CA20121 ‘Bench to bedside transition for pharmacological regulation of NRF2 in non-communicable diseases,’ the Training School gathered experts and trainees to explore the critical role of NRF2 in health and disease. The event featured informative seminars led by established researchers, shedding light on the significance of targeting NRF2.
The Training School also showcased presentations by renowned researchers from Baker, BMG Labtech, BioGenium Microsystems, and Lucid Scientific. These presentations covered the utilization of cutting-edge technologies such as oxygen-controlled workstations, plate readers, and apparatus designed to measure oxygen consumption rates in living cells.
Dr. Altijana Hromić-Jahjefendić's participation in this Training School underscores her commitment to staying at the forefront of scientific research and her dedication to advancing knowledge in her field.
