The Symposium on the Role of the Ahilik in the Balkans

Today, at the International University of Sarajevo, an international symposium started entitled " The Role of "Ahilik" in Establishing Social Peace in the Balkans".

The symposium was organized by the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), the Trade University in Istanbul and the International Balkan University with the help of Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA) as well as the Organization of Entrepreneurs and Artisans (ESDER) from Turkey.

Opening ceremony was attended by the IUS Rector, Prof. Dr. Özer Cınar, the director of TIKA for BiH, Mr. Zülküf Oruç, the Member of the Board of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Mr. Israfil Kuralay, and the vice rector of Istanbul Ticaret University Prof. Dr. Yucel Oğurlu as well as other guests.

IUS Rector, Prof. Dr. Çınar said that the symposium is organized with the support of a large number of universities in the region and Turkey.

"Ahilik, as the term is known both in Turkey and in the Balkans region. Ahilik represents the business solidarity, the mutual help, and beside all this it has great importance in the formation of a society. The Rector of the IUS said that the purpose of this symposium is to show that Ahilik does not only carry an economic character, but it also has its other side, the ethical side .

The symposium will last from September 19 to September 21, 2012.
