Sarajevo Business Forum: IUS Alumni Won 40.000 BAM to Start Their Business

Emina Bašić and Mirza Rastoder won the Start-up Challenge, a competition which was part of Sarajevo Business Forum, sponsored by BBI bank, Hayat Production, YEP incubator of business ideas, Mozaik Foundation, RSG radio and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The Start-up Challenge is a competition of business ideas, and IUS alumni won 40.000 BAM to start their project which they named “Homework”.

Emina and Mirza, International University of Sarajevo (IUS) alumni, studied together in the Department of International Relations and Public Administration. During their studies Emina and Mirza often needed a space to study in groups and work on projects. That was the reason they decided to help future generations by designing their project, “Homework”.

“Homework will help all young people (including high school students) to do their assignments, develop new ideas and learn how to work in a team”, said Mirza.

“When we won, of course, we were thrilled, because finally someone understood our idea and enthusiasm to work hard. But two days later we realized that that victory comes with great responsibility, because we now need to implement everything we had written about. Of course, we will come to the finish line and implement our idea, where our main vision is to become largest educational and homework center in Sarajevo Canton, but also in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, said Emina Bašić.

“In four years of our studies, there was not a single course or project that we worked on individually. These are the things that we were taught at the IUS, and also, we used every chance to show and prove what we are capable of doing. IUS Got Talent is an example of that, we applied to that show as a joke, and we won it. This kind of support that we have received means a world to young people like us. We are a bit surprised that there are still institutions and people who understand your ideas and wish to help you to execute them“, said Emina and Mirza.

The third member of the team was also Edin Sabljica, who is according to Mirza’s words possibly also going to be IUS student next year.
