Rectors' Conference in Ankara

On July 26 and 27, 2017, The Rectors' Conference titled "Forming the Higher Education Area of the Islamic World" was held in Ankara . The conference brought together 330 university rectors from 37 countries, where Islam represents the majority of the population. The aim of this conference was to consider the current topics of higher education in the countries of the Islamic world, and to encourage inter-institutional cooperation and the promotion of quality in higher education.

Welcoming ceremony for the rectors was held at the presidential palace in Ankara, under the patronage of the President of Republic of Turkey H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Rector of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), Prof. Dr. Tahsin Erkan Türe, has been honored to be the panelist at this extremely important gathering in Ankara. Rector Türe used this opportunity to establish cooperation with numerous higher education institutions from abroad, and thereby significantly improve the development of international relations of IUS.

Some of the panel discussion topics were: ”Qualifications Framework and Quality Assurance in Higher Education“, „Credit Transfer and Mobility System“, „Importance and Role of Quality Assurance Agencies“, „Recognition and Diploma Equivalence“, „Joint Program of Cooperation“.

The panel discussion results were evaluated at the final session on July 27, and published in the “Ankara Declaration 2017“. The Declaration is a document of paramount importance designed to be a road map for the formation of areas of higher education in the Islamic world and the interconnection of higher education institutions.

This is the fourth successfully held Islamic Countries Rectors' Conference. Previously, this type of events was hosted in Pakistan in 2012, 2013 and 2015.
