Ramadan meeting and iftar

On Friday, 17th of June, 2016, International University of Sarajevo organized an iftar for its students. This was the first time that IUS organized an iftar for students in the month of Ramadan.

The iftar was attended by more than 200 students and IUS Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu who was, also, with students that night. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and marks the beginning of fasting. Muslims observe the fast during daylight hours (from dawn to dusk) wherein they abstain from food and drink. This is a very special time in which Muslims focus on their spirituality, God consciousness and empathy with those who are less fortunate.

“I’m usually breaking my fast alone. It’s kind of hard because the whole point of Ramadan is being with family and appreciating it with your family. IUS became my family this year.” one of the IUS student said.

After iftar IUS students surprised Rector with the token of appreciation to thank him for the support and motivation to be the change they want to see in the world.
