Newly Established Scientific Council of Canton Sarajevo to be Chaired by IUS Professor Emeritus Šabanović

Academician Prof. Emeritus Dr. Asif Šabanović, a member of the Board of Trustees of International University of Sarajevo (IUS), has been appointed as the President of the Science Council, a newly founded body operating within the scope of Canton Sarajevo Ministry of Education, Science and Youth.

The Science Council consists of nine members, representing universities and the industry. The Council will play an important role in the promotion and development of science and research in Canton Sarajevo. On this occasion, the relevant Minister Melika Husić-Mehmedović said that it is her honor to collaborate with distinguished academics:

“We have a group of really distinguished researchers, whose advice will be beneficial not only for the Ministry, but the entire BiH society. Our first activity that we are to undertake today is for the Council to analyze the proposal of criteria for financing scientific research and artistic research projects. Following their opinion, we are planning to make a public call to award grants to partially fund projects, with total value of the grants being three million BAM.”

The Council will meet regularly, and will be chaired by Academician Prof. Dr. Asif Šabanović in the first four years of its mandate.

International University of Sarajevo would like to use this opportunity to congratulate Prof. Dr. Šabanović on the appointment to this respectable position, and wish him much success in his work as a promoter of science in Canton Sarajevo.
