Joint Architecture Workshop with Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University (FSMVU)

Architecture Faculty of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University (FSMVU), from Istanbul, in collaboration with the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) Architecture program, hosted Workshop titled: ''Sustainable and Affordable Housing II: Urban Regeneration of Eyup, Istanbul'', held from July 11 – 14, 2017. This year's workshop is a continuation of the last year's, with the topic of the workshop remaining the same, but the context was historical area of Eyup in Istanbul.

The workshop brought together experts and professors from different countries. On behalf of the organizers, the Workshop coordinators Assist. Prof. Lana Kudumović and Senior Assistant Lejla Krivošić Dizdarević welcomed the participants and thanked Assist. Prof. Lamila Simišić Pašić of the IUS, Dr. Ruba Kasmo and Dr. Mine Esmer of the FSMVU for their lectures and contribution on the first day of the program and introduction to the topic. Special thanks went to Dr. Alidost Ertuğrul and Hanif Budiman who also contributed to the program.

The following days were used positively and constructively,  where the students – the Workshop participants – researched traditional surroundings, methods of constructions, and ways of living, in order to produce the best possible solutions for the given sites in the oldest part of Istanbul. The group was also welcomed at the Eyup Municipality, where they met with the chief urban planners of the area, and were in detail informed about the plans and developments in this important area.

The Workshop concluded with a series of presentations of very well-thought-out solutions to the sustainable and affordable housing problem which today’s cities and societies are facing. The final presentations had as a result fruitful discussion between the groups of student participants.

Further collaboration between the two universities is planned.
