IUS sponsor of a two-day International Conference

In the Great Hall of the Gazi Husrev-bey's Library in Sarajevo began a two-day international conference titled " Diasporic and Migrant Identities: Social, Cultural, Political, Religious and Spiritual Aspects" on Thursday, April 23, 2015. This conference was realized in organization of the Institute for Islamic tradition of Bosniaks, sponsored by Reis-ul-ulema of the Islamic Community, Husein ef. Kavazović, International University of Sarajevo (IUS), Directorate for Turks Abroad and Related Communities in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey and the Foundation "Konrad Adenauer".

Reis-ul-ulema Husein ef. Kavazović opened the conference emphasizing the historical aspect of the migration of the Bosniak population throughout different periods, and the importance of discussion of issues related to Diaspora and migrant identities. In his opening address, Rector of the International University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu stressed the importance of such conferences because they have an international character. ''This conference can further expand the horizons for better communication and cooperation of displaced people who live abroad and can contribute to the betterment of this country and its people. We hope that this conference will contribute to creating the necessary framework for scientific tests and a better understanding of the changes that have befallen the identity of the Bosniaks as a result of migration'' - said Rector Oğurlu.

The conference brought together 23 experts and lecturers. They will talk about different scientific topics and experiences; propose new ways of how to act while focusing on the Bosniak, Balkan Muslims, and other communities. Among other things, reconstruction of trans-local communities in the Bosniak diaspora will be discussed, Muslim migrants in New Zealand as well as transformation of the bh. Immigrants identity in Germany after the 60s in the 20th century.
