IUS established Faculty of Education (FEDU)

The Government of the Canton Sarajevo adopted at its ninth meeting session, held on Wednesday, June 11, 2015, the Report of the Expert Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Sarajevo Canton that provides expert opinion in connection with the Study on the establishment of the Faculty of Education (FEDU). The Faculty of Education (FEDU) at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) offers the possibility to study in all three cycles. The objective of the Faculty is the education of high quality domestic and foreign teachers who will work on the improvement of the primary, secondary and higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as abroad. Apart from the fundamental disciplines such as computer technologies, Turkish and English language and literature, the study program will offer research within the following fields: contemporary pedagogical disciplines, methodologies of the teaching process, as well as linguistic and communication skills. The Faculty offers an interdisciplinary approach to teaching, learning, research and practical work. The opening of the Faculty of Education at IUS contributes not only to the strengthening of the educational system of Bosnia and Herzegovina but also its connection to international institutions in all fields of education.

Students can acquire knowledge at the following study programs:

English Language and Literature Teaching (ELT)

English Language and Literature Teaching (ELT) curriculum (Teaching Department) of Educational Faculty (FEDU) at IUS offers the chance of attending all three cycluses of study (BA, MA, PhD). Students are able to acquire knowledge in the field of English language and literature, which is a foreign language in BiH. The aim of English language and literature program is to enable students to get good quality education and training in the field of English language and literature, as well as to train students modern methodology of teaching and educational psychology. Through the education program, trained foreign and native teachers will contribute to promotion of primary, secondary and higher education in BiH and abroad. Within the study program, in addition to fundamental disciplines of language and literature, modern pedagogical disciplines, methodology of the teaching process as well as linguistic and communication skills are taught and studied. The Faculty offers advanced interdisciplinary approach to teaching, learning, research and practice.

Turkish Language and Literature Teaching (TLT)

The curriculum for Turkish Language and Literature Teaching (TLT) opening at the Faculty of Education (FEDU) at the International University of Sarajevo offers the possibility for students to study at all three cycles. The students will be able to gain knowledge from teaching Turkish language and literature as a second language in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The main aim of the Turkish Language and Literature Teaching (TLT) is to provide the students with quality education and professional development in all areas of Turkish language and literature, learn to utilize modern teaching methods as well as educational psychology. Beside the language, the students will be able to learn about Turkish culture and history. Through lectures delivered by national and international academic staff, the studies will contribute to development of the primary, secondary and higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad. Besides the fundamental language and literature disciplines, Turkish Language and Literature Teaching (TLT) will also enable the students to learn about the contemporary pedagogic disciplines, teaching methods as well as to gain linguistic and communication skills.

Computer Education and Instructional Technology (CEIT)

Computer Education and Instructional Technology (CEIT) program offers education from a few scientific disciplines such as informatics, communication studies, pedagogy, psychology etc. The main aim of this program is to teach students about the contemporary techniques and technology skills adaptation which they can implement in improving the efficiency of the educational processes on all education levels. This program trains students to gain skills of successful task completion in the areas of designing as well as administering the educational computer systems and platforms. The Computer Education and Instructional Technology (CEIT) graduates will be able to solve complex practical problems in the field of informatics, to present the complex informatics concepts as well as to connect the theoretical with practical knowledge in the fields of informatics, pedagogy, psychology and other relevant disciplines.

*Admission of students begins in 2016-2017 Academic year.
