International Conference on Education, Culture and Identity held at IUS

The International Conference on Education, Culture and Identity was held at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) from July 6th to July 8th, 2013.

The conference is organized with an aim to gather international and local academicians, researchers and experts from various fields to present, discuss and share their ideas, research findings and overall experience.

Around 100 international and local academicians and scholars from around the world presented their papers at this conference.

The conference was opened by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdulserdar Öztürk, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, at the International University of Sarajevo. In his address Dr. Öztürk wished everyone a successful conference and a pleasant stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The distinguished guests were greeted also by Asst. Prof. Dr. Tuba Boz, the Chair of the Conference and Cultural Studies Program Coordinator at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, who spoke about the goals and the scope of the ICECI conference, as well as the importance of this conference for IUS, saying that this c onference is a result of a successful cooperation of the International University of Sarajevo with Deaken University from Australia and the Erciyes University in Turkey.

The Deaken University was represented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Anna Halafoff, a Research Fellow at the Centre for Citizenship and Globalization at the Deaken University, who was at the same time also the Co-Chair of the ICECI Conference.

We had the pleasure of listening to the director of Yunuz Emre Cultural Center in Bosnia and Herzegovina Mr. Ceylani Akay as well. Mr. Ceylani gave a speech about the education process as well.

The keynote speaker at ICECI Conference was Prof. Dr. Lamija Tanoviæ, a Professor of Atomic and Nuclear Physics and Solid State Physics at the Department of Experimental Physics of the Faculty of Sciences, at the University of Sarajevo, who in her presentation explained to distinguished audience briefly the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the political situation and the consequences of the Dayton Peace agreement. Dr. Tanoviæ specifically talked about the current situation in educational process in Bosnia and Herzegovina and application and results of Bologna Process in B&H.

About the importance of education , culture and identity spoke also the European Commission Expert Dr. Willem Kolthof.
