International Conference “Bioethics in the era of Genomics and Personalized Medicine” held at IUS

The International University of Sarajevo was a host and organizer of the international conference “Bioethics in the era of Genomics and Personalized Medicine” on Friday, October 28, 2016.

Among attendants were Fahrudin Kulenović, president of Medical Chamber of Canton Sarajevo, Dr. Amira Redžić, Head of Department for Culture – State Commission for UNESCO of B&H, Indira Munđić, advisor of president of Office of Medical Insurance, Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Gürsel, Vice-Rector Assist. Prof. Dr. Farut Berat Akcesme as well as professors and students of IUS and other universities.

The Conference was opened by FENS’s dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sabina Semiz, who was the president of Organizational Committee.

The conference covered the questions on ethical principles and laws which are against scientific discoveries in the field of medicine and bioengineering. The development in the field of natural science and technology greatly ease human life and offered new diagnostic and therapeutic options for people around the world. But the current ethical and regulatory frameworks are not in accordance with new developments and challenges, especially in terms of genomics and personalized medicine.

The Conference speakers were:

1. Heidi Howard, Sweden;

2. Bogi Eliasen, Denmark;

3. Vojin Rakić, Serbia;

4. Kasim Bajrović, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Also, participants at the Conference donated money to NGO "Diabet". The president of "Diabet" Mrs. Mersiha Sarač presented problems and alternative solutions for those who have diabetes.

At the end of the Conference, the participants had the opportunity to exchange opinions and experiences as well as discuss and analyze the conclusions.
