First session of the Board of the UNESCO Office for Bioethics in BiH

The first session of the Board of the UNESCO Office for Bioethics in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in the Senate room of the International University of Sarajevo on Friday, April 10, 2015. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sabina Semiz recently appointed Head of the UNESCO Office for Bioethics in Bosnia and Herzegovina was an initiator of this session. At the beginning of the meeting, IUS Rector, Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu addressed the participants and pointed out that "the gate of the University is always open for development projects and the projects on which we collaborate with national and international institutions". Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS), Prof. Dr. Fuat Gürcan wished a warm welcome to everyone and stressed the importance of this project. He also wished members of the Board good luck in their future work. 

The session focused on the planning of the work and activities for the upcoming year in accordance with the instructions of the International Network of UNESCO Chair in Bioethics, which has 50 member states. Members of the of the UNESCO Office Board for Bioethics in Bosnia and Herzegovina are eminent scientists and experts: Prof. Dr. Faruk Čaklovica, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Adlija Čaušević, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sarajevo, Prim. Dr. Fahrudin Kulenović, president of the Medical Association of Sarajevo Canton, Prof. Dr. Stojko Vidović, Faculty of Medicine, University of Banja Luka, Prof. Dr. Boris Hrabač, Faculty of Medicine, University of Mostar and Assist. Prof. Dr. Ksenija Kondali, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo. The meeting identified directions of activities of UNESCO Office for Bioethics in Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2015: 

  1. Modernization of curricula in biomedical faculties in Bosnia and Herzegovina through inclusion of the "Bioethics" subject
  2. Design of modern educational materials in the field of bioethics,
  3. The organization of seminars, lectures and conferences in the field of bioethics, and
  4. Design of the website of UNESCO Office for Bioethics in Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

The newly established UNESCO Office for Bioethics in Bosnia and Herzegovina is to announce the participation of Prim. Dr. Fahrudin Kulenović, member of the Board of the UNESCO Office for Bioethics in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the Symposium "Integrative Bioethics and New Epoch". The symposium will take place in Croatia from 17-20 May, 2015. IUS wishes the members of the UNESCO Office for Bioethics in Bosnia and Herzegovina all the best in their future work.
