First Psychology Festival completed at IUS

First Psychology Festival was officially opened at the International University of Sarajevo on September 28, 2015.  Opening speeches at the Festival gave: Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhidin Mulalić, President of the Association of Psychologists of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Assist. Prof. Dr. Dženana Husremović, President of the Branch of psychologists in Sarajevo, Assist. Prof. Dr. Sabina Alispahić and Emeritus Professor Ismet Dizdarević, an honorary member of the Organizing Committee. Senior Assistant at the Psychology Program of FASS, Alma Jeftić gave support in the organization of the festival. During the opening of the festival children from the Institute for Special Education and Care of Children "Mjedenica" presented their artistic works as well. International University of Sarajevo (IUS), Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo, Faculty of Sport and Physical Education in Sarajevo and the Institute for Special Education and Care of Children "Mjedenica" Sarajevo were partners in project, and Ilidža Municipality the sponsor of the Festival. 

The festival is designed to introduce the general public with theoretical and practical aspects of psychology. It is the first of this kind in BiH. From 28 of September to 2 October 2015, the visitors had the opportunity to attend a series of interactive workshops, presentations and round table discussions as well as ask questions and participate in discussions. The four day festival covered topics from psychotherapy, mental health, substance abuse, education, parenting, unemployment and government reforms. At IUS two workshops were held: ("Parenthood", Nermina Vehabović-Rudež; "I belong, therefore I defend: Impact of identifying with a group on the possibility of recognition of the crimes committed by its members," Alma Jeftić), an interactive lecture ("I'm not a diagnosis, I am a person, "Renata Krstanović, Metanoia Association) and a round table ("Psychology between management and law: Human Resources Management in the Civil Service in BiH ", Alma Jeftić). 

The most interesting part of the festival was a round table discussion that was attended by many participants among whom were: the President of the Association of Psychologists of FBiH Assist. Prof. Dr. Dženana Husremović, representatives of the BiH Civil Service Agency, the Federal BiH Civil Service Agency, Office of the Coordinator for Public Administration Reform in BiH, the Civil Service Appeals FBiH, GIZ Office of BiH, as well as interested psychologists employed by the state and public institutions and psychology students. The main objective of the initiative launched by the Association of Psychologists of FBiH in cooperation with the IUS and the Centre for Balkan Studies (BSC) is to show how psychological methods of managing human resources are developed and applied in the private sector and how they can be successfully implemented in the public service, all in order to achieve further cooperation in this field with representatives of state and public institutions.
