Dr. Mirsad Hadžikadić Lectured about Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and Complex Systems

Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) has started a series of lectures with prominent world experts in natural sciences. The series of lectures was called "Miller Talks" in the memory of recently deceased Prof. Emeritus Harry Miller, who taught mathematics at the IUS. This series of lectures will host a number of speakers that can communicate science in a friendly, approachable and fun manner.

The first lecture in the series was held on Friday, January 18, 2019, and the guest lecturer at the IUS was Dr. Mirsad Hadžikadić, Director of Complex Systems Institute & Executive Director of Data Science Initiative at UNC Charlotte. He delivered a lecture on "Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Complex Systems, and Opportunities in Bosnia and Herzegovina ".

Prof. Hadžikadić spoke about the possibilities of application and challenges of artificial intelligence in terms of health care, society, security and the human mind. He gave a large number of practical demonstrations and presented simulations of emerging behaviors in complex systems. He concluded the lecture by sketching out the possibilities that technology has for the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the youth as the main drive. At the end of the lecture, professor concluded that the main factor in the success of every country is education, and not the illegally obtained diplomas.
