Dr. Demirel holds lecture at IUS on Ethics in Public Life

On March 24, 2010, International University of Sarajevo had a pleasure to host Dr. Serdar Demirel, Assistant Professor at the Department of Qur'an and Sunnah Studies, Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences of the International Islamic University Malaysia. For all interested professors and students, Dr. Demirel held a public lecture titled "Ethics in Public Life: Abortion" at the Amphitheater of the IUS Campus.

In this lecture, as Dr. Demirel stated, he tried to answer  the key question of "when people acquire the right to live". While saying that "different traditions share different perspectives on the issue of induced abortion", Dr. Demirel focused more on the Islamic point of view, using Qur'an, Hadith and jurisprudence perspectives as a source for his research. Dr. Demirel ended his lecture by concluding that the question of defining a human person is a matter of moral decision.

Dr. Demirel earned his B.A. and M.A. from the International Islamic University Islamabad in Pakistan, and his Ph.D. from the International Islamic University of Malaysia. He has published numerous articles in renowned journals.
