Distinguished Prof. Dr. Ömer Turan Visited IUS

Prof. dr. Ömer Turan, head of History department at the Middle East Technical University (METU), visited international University of Sarajevo (IUS) from July 24 – 28, 2017, as part of Erasmus+ staff Exchange.

Distinguished METU professor was hosted by Dr. Mustafa Bal, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at the IUS, with his associates. In the meeting, the parties discussed possibilities for future cooperation in terms of research, and participation in joint projects and conferences.

Dr. Turan held several lectures for Political Sciences and International Relations students. The lectures were attended by the IUS students and students from Turkey and other parts of the world who are currently attending the summer school programs at the IUS. The topics of lectures were from prof. Turan’s fields of expertise: history of Ottomans and Balkans, Turkish minorities in the Balkans, activities of protestant missionaries in the Ottoman Empire, modern Turkish history, etc.

“It is our great honor to host experts such as prof. Turan at the IUS. The cooperation with the METU is one of great accomplishments of the IUS in the field of international relations, considering that METU is among the best universities in Turkey, and among 100 best universities in the world. We hope that the cooperation will continue and intensify even more”, said Dean Mustafa Bal.
