Chief Adviser to the Turkish President Yalçın Topçu visited International University of Sarajevo (IUS)

On Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, the Chief Adviser to the Turkish President Yalçın Topçu visited International University of Sarajevo (IUS). Mr. Topçu was welcomed by IUS Rector Prof. Dr. Tahsin Erkan Türe, whilst the meeting was also attended by a delegation of Cultural Center "Yunus Emre" and Turkish Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina led by H. E. Ambassador Haldun Koç.  In the meeting, Rector Türe informed the distinguished guest about the ongoing activities at IUS and future plans for the development of the University.

After the meeting, Mr. Yalçın Topçu, H.E. Haldun Koç, Prof. Dr. Tahsin Erkan Türe and the delegation headed to IUS Amphitheatre, where Rector Türe and the Ambassador addressed the auditorium, which included a great number of IUS students and outside guests. After the opening speeches, Mr. Topçu delivered a lecture: “The History of Turkish Democracy and Coups”.

Students had the opportunity to hear about the history of the coups in the Republic of Turkey, about the ways in which they influenced Turkish contemporary history, and the historical implications and lessons learned for the future. At the end of his address, Mr. Topçu emphasized that Bosnian and Turkish nations have a strong historical bond that can never be broken. Mr. Topçu also pointed out the importance of the quotation "Do not forget the genocide, those who forget will face genocide again." by the first president of Bosnia and Herzegovina Alija Izetbegović.

After the conference, the special guest was given a gift as a memory of his visit.
