Book Launch: "Prosecuting Conflict-Related Sexual Violence at the ICTY"

On Thursday, 22 June 2017, Prosecution Office of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), in cooperation with the Outreach program of the ICTY, held the book launch in the hotel Holiday in Sarajevo. Book titled "Prosecuting Conflict-Related Sexual Violence at the ICTY" was edited by ICTY/MICT Prosecutor, Serge Brammertz and ICTY OTP Deputy to the Prosecutor Michelle Jarvis and published by Oxford University Press.

Book is available in Bosnian and English language.

Remarks were made by Prosecutor Serge Brammertz, Ambassador of Switzerland to BiH, Andrea Rauber Saxer, Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Ambassador Jonathan Moore, President of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP), Gerhard Jorsch and Deputy to the Prosecutor Michelle Jarvis.

Speakers examined the challenges in prosecuting conflict-related sexual violence. Most memorable moment was the video compilation of rape victims testifying before the tribunal.

The book launch was followed by the poster exhibition on the same topic. Posters were done through an open call competition to all art students from the Balkans, where IUS Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design program took part as well.

Exhibition of artwork was held as a part of the event, which included former IUS students, current teaching and administrative staff members. Mentor under whose guidance students participated in the competition was Prof. Kenan Zekić. Among artworks were those of former IUS students Amanda Bešić who won the first place and Muhammet Suiçmez who won the second place, and artworks of IUS staff Emir Hambo and Haris Heljo. In the introductory part, Emir Hambo and Haris Heljo who participated in the poster competition were called out to introduce themselves to the audience.

Once again we congratulate on the participation and awards to our former students and IUS staff on this historically significant book launch.
