Bilal Erdogan and Bakir Izetbegovic gave lectures at IUS

On Wednesday, October 16, 2019, the International University of Sarajevo was a host to contemporary lectures held by very distinguished guests from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey.

Guests were first welcomed by IUS Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım, where he expressed the pleasure of IUS being a host to such prominent guests and mentioned that lectures like this remind us of our great past and our heroes.

The guests were then addressed by the Honorable Bilal Erdoğan, The acting Chair of ILIM YAYMA Foundation, who gave a speech on the topic “Contemporary Perception of Youth and Civilization. Talking about the current situation in Turkey, he stated: "We have suffered more terrorist attacks than any other NATO country. There was no discussion about the use of Article 5 on protecting Turkey".

Turkey, he added, has decided to take the initiative and protect its borders and its people, and will not allow the presence of terrorists at its border.

Mr. Erdogan instructed the citizens of BiH to be loud in presenting their ideas and to try to correct the injustices.

After that, the lecture "Remembrance of Alija Izetbegovic" was delivered by President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), and Speaker of the House of Peoples, Mr. Bakir Izetbegovic, who spoke about the first president of Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, not only about Alija Izetbegovic as a politician, but as a father, as humble human being that he was.

Through pictures, he spoke about the life, that is, the memory of the life of his father Alija Izetbegović, but also of his ancestors. He returned to the pictures in the past and in the early youth of the first President of the Presidency of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, late Alija Izetbegović.

He said: „My father defended the people, the Bosniak people, and in general, the BiH nation and the idea that people of different faiths, cultures, and identities, nevertheless, can live together. The Bosniak people are defended. This idea, that we should all be a little more Bosnians, to prove that we can live together, Alija Izetbegovic left us. There is still a lot of work to do, "Izetbegovic said.

The exhibition “Gobeklitepe”-The zero point of history, organized by the “Yunus Emre Institute” was then opened at IUS Art Gallery, where visitors had the chance to see archaeological photographs. Director of Yunus Emre Institute in Ankara, Mr. Seref Ates spoke about the importance of that archaeological site.

IUS had the pleasure to be the host to honourable, great people and to help spread the message that if we all work together, the World peace will be attainable, and peace and wisdom will prevail, as the late Alija Izetbegovic has always wanted.
