Balkan Studies Center Round Table 7 on "What Happened before Srebrenica Genocide?”

Balkan Studies Center held its 7th round table on the 18th of March 2016 in IUS Senate Room. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Can of IUS, delivered a short talk on the issue around the book titled The Blood of Realpolitics: The Affair of Srebrenica by Florance Hartmann and then the participants proceeded with questions and answers and discussions as usual.

Among the various issues they also discussed about the roles of major figures before the Srebrenica genocide, diplomatic games, as well as the three great powers reaching a secret agreement, the cover-up of facts, the media’s role, war crimes and genocide. Participants had also an engaging discussion on the concept of justice and whether the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) (and courts in general) could provide “justice”. The discussion ended with the suggestion that the Balkan Studies Center should soon organize a round table on the relationship between politics and justice.
